VERNITA BRADFORD, MSW
After years of supporting others as a medical social worker, I found myself facing my own health challenge, Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD). Determined to take an active role in my health, I began adopting a mostly plant-based lifestyle after completing Dr. Hans Diehl’s “You Turn” (formerly C.H.I.P.) program.
Through faith, education, and consistent lifestyle changes, I experienced profound results—losing nearly 70 pounds, improving my energy, and slowing the progression of my kidney disease. I firmly believe that these changes helped prepare my body and spirit for the next chapter of my journey.
In 2023, I received a life-changing kidney transplant, made possible through a donor voucher program after my husband, Tracey, gave the gift of life when he donated his kidney. This experience strengthened my commitment to help others discover the power of lifestyle and community in reaching individual health goals.
In 2020, I co-founded Healthy Road Lifestyle, a supportive group that offers education, encouragement, and connection for anyone seeking to improve their health through lifestyle change with an emphasis on plant-based foods. My mission today is to inspire hope and healing—showing that it’s never too late to take the next step toward a healthier, purpose-filled life.


BETTY PEEPLES WHEELER, LCSW
My goal is to provide support and encouragement to others on their path to a healthier lifestyle. My own journey is the foundation of this desire to support others. In my 40s, after years of a sedentary lifestyle fueled by fast food and sugary snacks, I found myself weighing 256 pounds. For a long time, I wanted to change but was unsure of how or where to begin.
My first major step came in 2014 when I made the decision to have gastric bypass surgery. By following the guidelines, I successfully lost 100 pounds and felt a renewed sense of hope. However, the journey to lasting health is rarely a straight line. In 2018, during a particularly stressful season of my life, I slipped back into old habit patterns and regained 20 pounds. That setback was a pivotal moment. I knew I needed to do something different. Throughout 2019, I began learning about the benefits of a plant-based diet and began making small, intentional changes. On January 1, 2020, I fully committed to this new way of eating, which has been instrumental in improving my health and habits. I not only lost the 20 pounds I regained but have since maintained a total weight loss of 112 pounds. My transformation wasn't a solo effort. I am incredibly grateful for the partnership with Vernita Bradford and for the mentorship and inspiring examples set by Dr. Hans Diehl and Terence Taye.
The support and encouragement of my family and friends have played a crucial role in my journey. In addition, my life has been profoundly shaped by prayer, and my faith in God continues to provide me with purpose and fulfillment
How can I begin to describe my time with Poveda... It was simply life-changing! I always imagined that Bali would be a breathtaking destination, but thanks to Poveda, I was able to not just experience the culture, but have once-in-a-lifetime memories. I got so much more than I ever anticipated from my holiday.
